Lehigh’s Small Cities Lab (SCL) hosted its inaugural Co-Lab on Sept. 18–19 at Mountaintop, bringing together researchers and community leaders for conversations surrounding small cities.

Since its inception, the work of the SCL has been rooted in the partnership between the larger Bethlehem community and the university. The SCL develops community-facing, action-oriented research projects centered on contemporary urban change in American cities with populations under 250,000, and works with municipalities, non-profit organizations, allied industries and resident stakeholders to develop a deeper understanding of the most pressing challenges facing small-to-midsized cities, according to the SCL website.

The two-day event featured sessions, talks and workshops. SCL members gathered responses, experiences, ideas and challenges from participants to help define the "small city" and set their priorities and research agenda.

The event was a critical step in building relationships and setting an agenda for action while giving participants tools, frameworks and resources.
